About The Position

Chemical Process Development (CPD) brings together organic chemists, analytical chemists, and chemical engineers to design novel syntheses that supply new medicines. CPD scientists develop safe, economical, sustainable, and robust small-molecule processes for clinical trials and medicine launches. The intern will join the analytical team and help advance CPD’s analytical capabilities by developing and optimizing liquid chromatography and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy techniques. Over approximately 10 weeks, the intern will complete a guided research project with a mentor within a PD Project Team. The internship offers industry and functional experience, challenging assignments, exposure to company and business leaders, a mentorship program, and a formal presentation at its conclusion. The position is based in New Brunswick, New Jersey, and is scheduled to run from June 7 to August 13, 2027.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited university program pursuing a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Science, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Expected graduation between Fall 2027 and 2028.
  • Authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire and for the duration of employment.
  • Hands-on experience with LC (HPLC/UPLC).
  • Problem-solving and instrument-troubleshooting skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Include GPA on resume; the program requires a GPA of 3.0 or greater.

  • Experience with automated or online sampling systems and instrument integration.
  • Experience with NMR techniques, particularly acquisition and interpretation of small-molecule NMR data.

Responsibilities

  • Design and execute experiments evaluating the performance of liquid chromatography and nuclear magnetic resonance instrumentation.
  • Develop data analysis techniques to facilitate the generation of chemical insights.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to investigate representative small-molecule chemical reactions, including non-isolated intermediates and process-related impurities.
  • Analyze and interpret chromatographic and spectroscopic data to provide insight into system suitability and performance limits.

Benefits

  • Interns may be eligible for limited benefits depending on program structure, work location, and local requirements.
  • Mentorship program.
  • Formal presentation at the end of the internship.
