About The Position

Waymo is hiring a 2027 summer intern to work on machine learning for autonomous driving. The internship is based on-site at Waymo’s headquarters in Mountain View, California. The intern will design and implement state-of-the-art multimodal (camera, radar, lidar, and audio) and multitask perception models; train and evaluate machine-learning models using Waymo driving-log data; and gain experience with large-scale machine-learning infrastructure and team-based work. Potential project areas include 3D object detection and tracking, open-vocabulary detection using world-knowledge models, 3D occupancy detection, semantic segmentation, large-scale foundation models, and pre-training and self-supervised learning through forecasting. Interns work on impactful projects alongside industry leaders and have opportunities to apply and expand their skills. The listed hourly rate is $70 for master’s interns and $85 for PhD interns. Interns may participate in company benefits programs, subject to eligibility requirements.

Requirements

Be enrolled in a master’s or PhD program in Computer Science, Robotics, or a similar technical field, or be enrolled in a master’s program with a strong publication record.
Experience with Python.
Experience building machine-learning models with JAX, PyTorch, or TensorFlow.

Nice To Haves

A strong track record of high-quality machine-learning or computer-vision research.
Publications at top-tier conferences such as CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, ICLR, ICML, ICRA, IROS, RSS, NeurIPS, or AAAI, or in IJCV or PAMI.
Experience in object detection, segmentation, multiple-object tracking, audio perception, or occupancy detection.

Responsibilities
