About The Position

Illinois CancerCare has a student summer intern position available in the MOA department. Interested students will work up to 20 hours per week for 6 to 8 weeks. Our summer internship program is designed to give high school, undergraduate and medical school students a chance to gain experience in a healthcare facility.

Requirements

  • High school or college student.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting.
  • Eagerness to learn and take on new challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain clinic flow of scheduled patients on provider’s schedule by escorting patients to exam rooms.
  • Record vital signs, height, and weight in the Electronic Medical Record or “EMR”
  • Review and update patient medication list for each patient at every visit.
  • Prepare, clean and maintain exam rooms, treatment rooms and medical equipment.
  • Order and maintain adequate clinical supplies and equipment.
  • Review patient chart and ensure that lab reports are recorded in the patient’s chart. May be required to request results from external facilities.
  • Work under the supervision of the Nursing staff in the treatment room to assist with patient needs going over medications list and updating in the patient chart.
  • Answer and appropriately route incoming phone calls to support unit operations.
