About The Position
Illinois CancerCare has a student summer intern position available in the Imaging department. Interested students will work up to 20 hours per week for 6 to 8 weeks. Our summer internship program is designed to give high school, undergraduate and medical school students a chance to gain experience in a healthcare facility.
Requirements
- High school or college student.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting.
- Eagerness to learn and take on new challenges.
- Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
- Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
- Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours.
- Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.
- Requires frequent bending, reaching, squatting, stooping.
Responsibilities
- Assist licensed Radiologic Technologists with patient preparation, including room setup and basic positioning support (under supervision).
- Escort patients to and from imaging areas and ensure comfort and safety.
- Perform equipment setup and room turnover between exams (cleaning tables, restocking supplies)
- Support workflow efficiency by preparing exam rooms and organizing imaging accessories.
- Assist with patient identification and screening processes under direction (verifying orders, basic checklists—not clinical judgment).
- Help manage image processing tasks as permitted (sending images, documenting completion, quality checks under supervision).
- Maintain infection control, safety, and HIPAA standards at all times.
- Provide general department support, including answering phones, directing patients, and performing clerical tasks as needed.
- Observe imaging procedures to gain hands‑on exposure to radiology operations and patient care.
