About The Position

Illinois CancerCare has a student summer intern position available in the Lab department. Interested students will work up to 20 hours per week for 6 to 8 weeks. Our summer internship program is designed to give high school, undergraduate and medical school students a chance to gain experience in a healthcare facility.

Requirements

  • High school or College students preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Eagerness to learn and take on new challenges.
  • Phlebotomy technical institute students

Responsibilities

  • Assist with basic patient screening and specimen handling under supervision.
  • Support lab and phlebotomy workflows by preparing supplies and work areas.
  • Perform routine lab setup, cleanup, and equipment cleaning.
  • Help with specimen packaging, data entry, and clerical tasks.
  • Observe lab testing processes to gain hands‑on experience.
  • Follow all safety, infection control, and HIPAA guidelines.
  • Provide general departmental support, including answering or directing calls.
