About The Position

Our Summer Camp is an active academic and play day camp for children 4 to 12 years old. Our summer program aims to provide young learners with the opportunity to learn beyond the classroom. Campers engage with Ontario Math and Language curriculum activities that motivate them to apply prior learnt concepts and explore new concepts. Camp material is grade-appropriate, interactive, hands on and fun! Every week there is a weekly camp theme that encourages campers to be excited about learning throughout the summer. The Summer Camp Coordinator/Head Counsellor will work with the School and Camp Director to plan and facilitate the Summer Camp from May 2022 to August 2022. This position will have the first few weeks being focused on preparing for the launch of the Summer Day camp, including building relationships with staff, developing leadership, supporting the development of programs and communicating with parents and the local community. This person will have overall responsibility for all aspects of the camp including creating a fun and safe environment for children, leading the team of counsellors and ensuring alignment with the mission, vision, and values of the School.

Requirements

  • Must be currently enrolled in a university pursuing a degree in Education and/or Child & Youth Work
  • Fully aligned with the mission, vision, and values of the School
  • Ability to manage and lead people (can set an example, and mentor others), and be a team player
  • Teachable
  • Mentoring nature towards other staff
  • Experience directing, planning, and administering recreational programs or camps for children
  • Strong oral and written English communication
  • Organized, punctual, responsible, takes initiative and reliable
  • Position is contingent upon obtaining the Canada Summer Jobs Program
  • Ability to prioritize competing demands, work well under pressure and deal with stressful situations in a professional manner.
  • Current Standard First Aid/CPR "C" certification before start of camp

Responsibilities

  • Supports the planning, organization, directing, and administrative responsibilities of the camp program.
  • Assists with the planning and implementation of camp-wide activities including preparing areas and materials, following health and safety procedures, and daily set-up and take down of materials.
  • Ensure administrative tasks are completed accurately and in a timely manner such as staff scheduling, camper attendance, parent communication etc.
  • Supervisory duties include providing leadership to camp staff team by pre-season training, coaching, providing feedback, and ensuring they are confident in delivering programs and lessons.
  • Assists in maintaining assigned budget, monitors expenditures and ensures purchases are approved and permissible given the assigned camp budget.
  • Acts as a positive role model for children, youth and fellow staff through embodying the values of the school.
  • Other duties as assigned.
