About The Position

Girl Guides of Canada–Guides du Canada (GGC) is seeking a Summer Day Camp Counsellor to facilitate the Summer Day Camp experience for 6–12-year-old girls. This role involves working directly with GGC girl members and non-members, creating an unforgettable experience for campers by helping them explore, challenge themselves, be adventurous, and make lifelong memories. The ideal candidate is fun, energetic, and responsible, with a passion for working with children.

Requirements

  • Able to be a member of a dynamic staff team delivering a girl-centred, exciting day camp program experience to girls.
  • Be an effective role model to campers and colleagues, including actively participating in the solution of concerns that may arise.
  • Willingness to have flexible work hours, including early mornings, evenings and overnights.
  • Be available for the full duration of the day camp program (June 29 through August 28, 2026).
  • Must be 18 years of age or older in adherence to Girl Guides of Canada standards for risk management.
  • Demonstrated experience working with children in a recreational setting, preferably in a camp setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment, balancing multiple competing priorities.
  • Demonstrate responsibility, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Strong communicator with a demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service.
  • Have and/or be willing to obtain Standard First Aid with CPR C.
  • Obtain a Police Records Check to comply with the requirements of Girl Guides of Canada.
  • Applicants must be between 15-30 years of age at the start of employment.
  • Applicants must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment.
  • Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations and have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of the Girl Guides of Canada program is an asset.
  • Familiarity/comfortability in navigating downtown Toronto is an asset.
  • Prior experience planning and implementing children’s programs and activities is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate engaging activities for campers, including various activities, crafts, games, as well as taking them off-site to various nearby locations (including taking public transportation).
  • Supervise and be responsible for the duty-of-care of campers, including building relationships with campers throughout their day camp experience.
  • Facilitate both indoor and outdoor activities in various weather conditions.
  • Work co-operatively with other Camp Counsellors and GGC staff, including communication to Site Lead and Supervisors/Managers.
  • Attend all training and orientation prior to camp starting.
  • Adheres to all relevant policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Apply organizational policies regarding diversity, inclusivity and equity to content, member communication, and customer service – fostering a safe, inclusive, and engaging camp environment.
  • Embody and uphold GGC’s values, Code of Conduct, and mission.
  • Other duties as assigned.
