About The Position

Today’s Family is a not-for-profit organization serving over 7,500 children and families across Hamilton, Halton, Haldimand-Norfolk, Oxford County and Peel Region. Their mission is to ensure every child experiences the joy of learning through play, valuing Caring, Collaboration, Accountability, Innovation, and Inclusion. They are committed to delivering high-quality programs that evolve to meet the needs of their growing communities. This job posting is for a Camp Counsellor position, funded by Canada Summer Jobs, for individuals who believe in the importance of play in welcoming, inviting, and opportunity-rich spaces for children to explore and grow.

Requirements

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period.
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or a person granted refugee protection.
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with applicable provincial or territorial laws.
  • Diploma or degree in Early Childhood Education
  • Current knowledge and understanding of the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA)
  • Thorough knowledge of How Does Learning Happen?
  • Experience working with children in a child care setting
  • Record of up to date Immunization (TB Test, Tetanus, Polio, MMR)
  • Registered Early Childhood Educator, in good standing
  • Standard First Aid and CPR-C Certification
  • Current Vulnerable Sector Check (done in the last 6 months)

Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with children as our partners to co-create experiences to investigate, explore, and amplify their interests.
  • Offer dynamic, diverse, and unique programming that supports the well-being, engagement, and expression of children.
  • Consider and explore a wide variety of approaches to early learning, including Reggio-Emilia Approach, Play-based and Project-based Learning, Outdoor Education, Arts-based Learning, HIGH Five Principles of Healthy Child Development, Positive Youth Development, among other evidence-based approaches and practices.
  • Facilitate belonging for children and families by creating welcoming, accepting, and safe environments for children and families to learn and play.
  • Work collaboratively to build strong family partnerships in our communities through meaningful communication, facilitation of events and opportunities to involve and engage families in our work.
  • Be innovative in their approach to alignment with Ontario’s emergent curriculum and guiding pedagogical philosophy, ‘How Does Learning Happen?’
