About The Position

Substitute Teachers provide in-person instructional and general classroom support in Marlborough Public Schools during the 2026–2027 school year. The role involves following lesson plans, maintaining a safe and positive learning environment, and adapting instruction to student learning needs when necessary. Substitute teachers work cooperatively with staff, communicate expectations, support student progress, and follow school and district policies. The position pays $135.00 per day. Willingness to participate in extracurricular activities is a plus.

Requirements

Two years of college and/or two years of relevant experience working with school-aged children will be considered.
Some knowledge of curriculum in an area of interest: Early Childhood, Elementary, or Secondary Education.
Meet such alternative qualifications as the Superintendent of Schools may find appropriate and acceptable.

Nice To Haves

An Associate’s Degree preferred; a Bachelor’s Degree is a plus.
Massachusetts State Department of Elementary and Secondary Education licensure preferred but not required.
Willingness to participate in extracurricular activities.

Responsibilities

Provide instructional and general classroom duties in person.
Follow lesson plans and manage a class to maintain a safe and positive learning environment.
Participate in team teaching and interdisciplinary approaches.
Comply with building procedures and school and district policies.
Vary instruction to meet student learning needs when necessary.
Provide guidance, communicate expectations, and show an active interest in student progress.
Work cooperatively with other staff.
Respect personal privacy and maintain confidentiality with privileged information.
Intervene and/or report concerning student behavior to an administrator when necessary, including profanity, teasing, bullying, or distress.
Perform other specific job-related duties as directed.
