About The Position

The Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa is seeking a Substitute Teacher for the Ojibwe School. This role involves providing instruction to students in the absence of the regular classroom teacher, following provided lesson plans, and preparing appropriate classroom activities. The substitute teacher will report any difficulties or injuries to the Ojibwe School Principal and perform other duties necessary for the normal operation of the school. The position requires active advocacy for appropriate adult-child interactions, maintaining professional relationships with staff and community members, and upholding confidentiality. The role also involves representing the Fond du Lac Band positively in the community, maintaining proper attendance, and keeping a clean work area. Flexibility and willingness to assume additional responsibilities are expected.

Requirements

  • No Driver’s License Required.
  • BA or BS degree or appropriate Minnesota certification is required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing is required.
  • Ability to work independently and establish priorities is required.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy is required.
  • Ability to establish professional and harmonious working relationships on all projects and with all parties involved.
  • Subject to drug and alcohol testing in accordance with the Fond du Lac Reservation’s Personnel Policies.
  • Subject to pre-employment and annual background checks.

Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction to students in the absence of the regular classroom teacher.
  • Follow the lesson plans provided by the regular teacher, including student’s attendance to office.
  • In some cases, to prepare appropriate classroom activities for students.
  • Report any difficulties, injuries, etc. to the Ojibwe School Principal.
  • Perform duties as appropriate to that of a regular teacher that are necessary for the normal operation of the school.
  • Actively advocate and demonstrate appropriate adult child interactions.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with all staff and community members.
  • Maintains professional standards toward creating confidential relationships with all program participants and staff.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Displays a responsive and professional manner in promptly responding to all requests, complaints, and problems.
  • Recognizes that each employee is a representative of the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and is responsible for demonstrating courtesy, respect, and sensitivity to the needs of all others, including visitors and co-workers.
  • Represents the Fond du Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and the department in a positive and professional manner in the community.
  • Required to maintain proper attendance including reporting to work on time in accordance with applicable policies.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work area.
  • Due to changes and modifications in the job from time to time, employees are required to be flexible and assume other responsibilities assigned by management as deemed necessary.
