Substitute Cashiers- On Call
About The Position
The Brattleboro Food Co-op is hiring on-call Front End Staff to cover team member shifts during vacations, leaves, and peak seasons. This role offers flexible scheduling, with shifts picked up according to the employee’s availability; some shifts may be scheduled in advance. Duties include operating the point-of-sale system, handling cash and credit/debit card payments, helping customers, closing out the cash till, and keeping the work area tidy. The position may also include helping open or close the store and other assigned side work. Employees may have the opportunity to cross-train for Lead Cashier and Front End Lead positions. The co-op is partnered with United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 1459.
Requirements
- Must be able to work evenings and weekends.
- Must be able to pick up shifts on an on-call basis.
- Ability to use a scanner and count the cash drawer at the end of a shift.
- Reliability and punctuality.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to provide outstanding customer service.
- A positive attitude.

Responsibilities
- Process customer transactions using a point-of-sale system.

- Complete assigned side work and keep the work area tidy.
- Pick up on-call shifts, some of which may be scheduled in advance.
