About The Position

Lake Superior Academy is building a pool of dependable substitute teachers to support students and staff when a classroom teacher is absent. Assignments are offered on an as-needed, on-call basis; joining the pool does not guarantee a set schedule or number of days. The role serves students in grades K–5 at a tuition-free public charter school in Sault Ste. Marie that combines Montessori-inspired practices with hands-on, nature-based learning. Substitute teachers follow the classroom teacher’s plans and routines, support student learning and safety, and help maintain a calm, orderly classroom. In Montessori classrooms, they are expected to respect student independence, the prepared environment, classroom materials, and established routines. A willingness to learn Montessori practices is important. Substitutes leave brief notes for the returning teacher or school staff about the day.
