About The Position

Kokua Education is hiring substitute teachers for K-12 schools across the Memphis area for the 2026-27 school year. Substitute teachers cover classroom assignments, serve as positive role models, and help students discover a love of learning. Assignments may also include lunch and recess supervision, hallway monitoring, tutoring, and proctoring during testing season. Teachers can choose their schedule and work up to five days per week, selecting assignments that interest them. The role offers daily and long-term positions, with a path to potential permanent roles at high-performing K-12 schools. Kokua provides support from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily and free professional development. Pay is up to $187 per day, with weekly paychecks; daily positions pay $150 and long-term positions pay $187. Employees are paid via W-2. Background-check costs are reimbursed after 10 assignments.

Requirements

At least one year of experience working with children in any setting, such as a classroom, tutoring, or coaching.
An associate degree or higher.
Confidence managing a classroom of students.
Willingness to step in where needed, including supervision, tutoring, and test proctoring.
Pass state and federal background checks.
Believe that every child has a unique and powerful gift to share with the world.
