About The Position

Kokua Education is hiring substitute teachers for K-12 schools across the Nashville area for the 2026-27 school year. Substitute teachers provide classroom coverage and serve as positive role models who support students’ learning and help them see what is possible. Assignments may include daily positions paying $171 per day or long-term positions paying $206 per day, with weekly paychecks and payment through W-2 employment. Teachers can choose assignments and set their schedules, working up to five days per week. The role may also involve lunch or recess supervision, hallway monitoring, tutoring, and test proctoring. Kokua offers support from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily, free professional development, and a potential path to permanent roles at high-performing K-12 schools. Applicants must be willing to work at least three days per week and pass state and federal background checks; background-check costs are reimbursed after 10 assignments.

Requirements

At least one year of experience working with children in any setting, such as a classroom, tutoring, or coaching.
An associate degree or at least 60 credit hours.
Confidence managing a classroom of students.
Willingness to work at least three days per week.
Ability to pass state and federal background checks.
Relevant experience working with students should be included on the resume.

A bachelor’s degree is preferred; candidates may also be considered based on relevant experience.
