About The Position

Kokua Education is hiring substitute teachers for the 2026–27 school year in Brooklyn and the surrounding NYC area. Substitute teachers cover assignments at K–12 schools, support students’ learning, and serve as positive role models. Candidates can set their own schedules and work up to five days per week in assignments they are interested in. The role may include classroom instruction and other school support duties, such as lunch and recess supervision, hallway monitoring, tutoring, and proctoring during testing season. Kokua offers daily support from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. and presents the role as a potential path to permanent positions at high-performing K–12 schools.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree completed.
• At least one year of experience working with K–12 students.
• Confidence managing a classroom of students.
• Willingness to step in where needed for school support duties.
• Pass state and federal background checks; costs are reimbursed after 10 assignments.
• Belief that every child has a unique and powerful gift to share with the world.

Nice To Haves

• Availability to teach at least three days per week.
• Willingness to commute to two or more boroughs.
• Relevant experience working with students included on the resume.

Responsibilities
