About The Position

Kokua Education is hiring substitute teachers for the 2026–27 school year at K–12 schools across the Nashville area. Substitute teachers provide classroom coverage and serve as positive role models who help students develop a love of learning. Assignments may also include lunch and recess supervision, hallway monitoring, tutoring, and proctoring during testing season.

Teachers set their own schedules and may work up to five days per week, with a stated minimum availability of three days per week. Daily positions pay $171, and long-term positions pay $206 per day, with weekly paychecks and W-2 employment. The role offers support from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily, free professional development, and a potential path to permanent roles at high-performing K–12 schools. Background-check costs are reimbursed after 10 assignments.

Requirements

• At least one year of experience working with children in any setting, such as a classroom, tutoring, or coaching.
• An associate degree or at least 60 credit hours.
• Confidence managing a classroom of students.
• Willingness to work at least three days per week and step in where needed.
• Pass state and federal background checks; costs are reimbursed after 10 assignments.

Nice To Haves

• A bachelor's degree is preferred; candidates may also be considered based on relevant experience.
• Relevant experience working with students should be included on the applicant’s resume.
