About The Position

This position is for a Substitute Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. Applicants will be automatically registered for a substitute training class and will receive an email with training dates. The role involves maintaining a positive learning environment, implementing lessons in the absence of the regular instructor, ensuring district policies are observed, creating a safe classroom, supervising students, and being familiar with emergency procedures. Substitute teachers must also review notes, take attendance, follow lesson plans, maintain confidentiality according to FERPA, adapt to circumstances, exhibit good judgment, and be punctual for assignments.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Complete online APPLICATION for Substitute Teacher.
  • Bring a copy of your high school diploma or college transcript to the substitute training.
  • Read Form I-9 and bring the necessary supporting documentation (Driver License & Social Security Card) to Substitute Teacher training.
  • Attend a Dayton ISD Substitute Teacher training.
  • Complete the background/fingerprinting process and pay $48.95 to IdentoGO Services once you have received your email pass from IdentoGo Services; after attending our substitute teacher training course.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a positive learning environment and respond to the individual needs of the students.
  • Implement effective lessons in the absence of the regular Instructor.
  • Ensure that district policies are observed during all activities.
  • Create a safe classroom environment that is conducive to learning.
  • Keep all children in the classroom under supervision at all times.
  • Be familiar with fire exits, fire drill procedures, severe storm and tornado warning procedures.
  • Review notes for the day, take attendance and follow the lesson plans of the teacher.
  • Maintain confidentiality as defined by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
  • Demonstrate the ability to adapt to circumstances.
  • Exhibit good judgment and use appropriate language or behavior while on assignment.
  • Report for duty 15 minutes early and remain on duty for the entire assignment, including planning time of the teacher.
  • Abide by state statutes, school board policies and regulations.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation.
  • Leave detailed notes for teacher on any issues experienced during the day.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Principal, or the Substitute Office.
