About The Position

Local substitute teachers are individuals who hold a minimum of 48 completed college credit hours AND have been granted a Nebraska Department of Education Local Substitute License. The pay rates for the 2026-2027 school year are pending board approval. Current pay rates from the 2025-2026 school year are $173.85 for a full day and $86.92 for a half day. This role requires a Nebraska Department of Education Local Substitute Certificate, which must be secured prior to employment. Applicants must also submit three certified reference surveys before their hire date. After application submission and review, a link for the Local Substitute Orientation will be emailed. Current LPS employees retiring or changing to a Substitute Only position may be subject to re-employment rules and waiting periods.

Requirements

• Minimum of 48 completed college credit hours.
• Nebraska Department of Education Local Substitute License.
• Nebraska Department of Education (NDE) Local Substitute Certificate.
• Three certified references to complete electronic survey forms.
• Do not apply if you hold a degree in education and hold (or recently applied for) a Nebraska Teaching Certificate.

Responsibilities
