About The Position

In the absence of the classroom teacher, the substitute teacher enables each student to pursue his or her education as smoothly and completely as possible by providing instruction, encouraging student progress and managing the learning environment.

Requirements

  • A minimum requirement of 60 semester credit hours from a regionally accredited college or university OR qualify under the KSDE TEAL emergency Licensure guidelines
  • A valid Kansas Teaching License, Kansas Standard Substitute Teaching License, or Kansas Emergency Substitute License
  • A negative Tuberculosis (TB) test dated within the past 18 months
  • Complete a criminal background check

Responsibilities

  • Use of the district substitute placement system (currently Frontline/AESOP)
  • Reports to the school office upon arrival and performs all check-in procedures as required
  • Maintains the established routines and procedures of the assigned school and classroom as fully as possible
  • Leads and facilitates lessons plans and activities for students as directed by the absent teacher
  • Consults with a building administrator, department head, team leader, grade level teachers, etc. before initiating any teaching or other procedure not specified
  • Follows all district and school policies, rules, and procedures to which regular teachers are subject and which good teaching practice dictates
  • Maintains a clean and organized classroom environment
  • Supporting and assisting fellow staff and administration as needed
  • Develops and maintains positive student, teacher, staff, and parent relationships
  • Encourages, models, and assumes responsibility for positive and appropriate classroom behavior
  • Maintains a safe and welcoming classroom environment
  • Maintains a positive attitude even in times of crisis or stress
  • Other duties/responsibilities deemed necessary may be assigned
  • Contributes to safe and orderly work areas
  • Works to help ensure student achievement
  • Builds positive school/community relations
  • Works to develop constructive peer and student relationships
  • Works to develop effective and efficient performance
  • Practices responsible fiscal, facility, and resource management

  • Adheres to all district health and safety policies, including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan
