About The Position

BASIS Baton Rouge Materra is building a pool of qualified, reliable substitute teachers to provide classroom coverage on an as-needed basis. Substitute Teachers step in when teachers are absent to maintain continuity of instruction and help students receive a high-quality learning experience. They facilitate teacher-provided lesson plans, maintain classroom routines and expectations, and create a positive, productive learning environment. Assignments may involve a variety of subjects and grade levels.

BASIS Charter Schools use the BASIS Charter School Curriculum and describe their educators as members of a collaborative professional learning community. Teachers have autonomy and academic freedom to create dynamic lessons that foster student enthusiasm and high-level learning. This role supports students' academic development and preparation for higher education, careers, and global citizenship.

Salary is competitive and depends on the frequency of substitute coverage.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in the subject matter, or 24 or more credit hours in the applicable subject matter with another degree.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Nice To Haves

• Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in subject matter or education.
• Two or more years of teaching or education experience.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate provided lesson plans.
• Provide subject instruction above grade-standard level in an interactive learning environment to achieve strong student outcomes.
• Manage student behavior to foster academic achievement, personal responsibility, intellect, individuality, and respect.
• Support non-instructional functions, including “Early Bird,” “Late Bird,” lunch, and study hall.
• Arrive on time and remain available for the full duration of accepted substitute assignments.
• Supervise individual students and/or groups of students.
