About The Position

Kokua Education is hiring part-time substitute teachers in Rio Grande City and the surrounding Rio Grande Valley for the 2026–27 school year. Substitute teachers work in K–12 schools, covering classroom assignments and helping students see what is possible through positive role modeling. They may choose their schedule and work up to five days per week in assignments that interest them. Pay is up to $145 per day, paid weekly via W-2. Substitute teachers with a high school diploma or GED, 48 or more college credits, or an associate degree can earn up to $117 per day. Those with bachelor’s, master’s, or professional degrees can earn up to $145 per day. Kokua offers support daily from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., and applicants may receive an offer within one week of applying. The role can also provide a path toward permanent positions at high-performing K–12 schools.

Requirements

At least one year of experience working with children in any setting, such as a classroom, tutoring, or coaching.
At least 48 college credit hours completed.
Confidence managing a classroom of students.
Willingness to assist with duties such as lunch or recess supervision, hallway monitoring, tutoring, and test proctoring.
Pass state and federal background checks; costs are reimbursed after 10 assignments.
Believe that every child has a unique and powerful gift to share with the world.
