About The Position

Kokua is seeking substitute teachers for the 2025-26 school year in Queens and surrounding NYC areas. This role offers the opportunity to make a positive impact in the community, spark a love for learning in students, and help address the teacher shortage crisis. Substitute teachers will have a flexible schedule, the autonomy to choose assignments and locations, and the chance to add representation in the classroom. Kokua Education, founded by a former teacher, has been connecting individuals to K-12 schools for over 13 years and operates in schools across Manhattan, Brooklyn, the Bronx, Staten Island, and Queens.

Requirements

• Completed Bachelor's Degree (per NYC requirement)
• 1+ year(s) experience working with K-12 students
• Confidence to manage a classroom of students
• Ability to pass a background check
• Availability within a 7:30am-4:30pm window
• Include all relevant experience working with students on your resume

Nice To Haves

• Preference given to candidates who can work at least 3 days/week
• Preference is given to candidates willing to commute to 2+ boroughs
• Bilingual, Spanish speaking teachers

Responsibilities

• Manage a classroom of students
• Substitute teach in various private and charter schools across NYC
• Potentially work up to 5 days a week
• Communicate with a support team of former teachers
