About The Position

The Liberty County School System is seeking Substitute Teachers for the 2026-2027 school year. The application process involves completing an online application, fulfilling substitute test requirements (if applicable), completing the LiveScan background check, and attending a mandatory training session. All communications will be sent electronically. Substitute teacher positions are posted three times a year: Summer, Fall, and Spring. References must be from present or past supervisors and submitted electronically.

Requirements

  • Completed Liberty County School System on line application
  • Two recommendations from previous supervisors. (Note: One of the recommendations must be from the most recent or current immediate supervisor)
  • Copy of diploma(s), transcripts, and other relevant information
  • High school diploma
  • Valid teacher certificate
  • Applicants who do not have a four-year degree must pass a 98 question basic screening test and make an acceptable score of 80 or higher.
  • Applicants with a four-year degree must provide official transcripts of a Bachelor’s Degree or higher.
  • Complete the LiveScan (Background Check) process.
  • Attend a four-hour training session at the Liberty County Board of Education.
  • Bring Driver’s License, Social Security Card, and Official Transcripts (Bachelor’s degree or higher) to training.

Responsibilities

  • Reports to the building principal or school secretary upon arrival at the school building.
  • Maintain a positive learning environment and respond to the individual needs of the students.
  • Teaches the lesson outlined and described in the Substitute Teacher's Guide as prepared by the absent teacher.
  • Ensure that district policies are observed during all activities.
  • Create a safe classroom environment that is conducive to learning.
  • Keep all children in the classroom under supervision at all times.
  • Be familiar with fire exits, fire drill procedures, severe storm and tornado warning procedures.
  • Review notes for the day, take attendance and follow the lesson plans of the teacher.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Demonstrate the ability to adapt to circumstances.
  • Exhibit good judgment and use appropriate language or behavior while on assignment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal, or Superintendent of Schools.
  • Abide by state statutes, school board policies and regulations.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation.
  • Leave detailed notes for teacher on any issues experienced during the day.
