About The Position

Kokua Education is hiring part-time substitute teachers in Austin, Texas, for the 2026–27 school year. Substitute teachers work in K–12 schools, setting their own schedules and choosing assignments across the Austin area, up to five days per week. Assignments may include teaching, lunch and recess supervision, hallway monitoring, tutoring, and test proctoring. The role offers a path to potential permanent positions at high-performing K–12 schools and support from Kokua staff daily from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Kokua Education, founded in 2011 by a former teacher, connects professional educators with schools. Its substitute teachers serve as positive role models and help foster students’ love of learning. Daily pay is up to $200, depending on qualifications and assignment length, and is paid weekly through W-2 employment. Background-check costs are reimbursed after 10 assignments.

Requirements

• At least one year of experience working with children in any setting, such as a classroom, tutoring, or coaching.
• At least 48 college credit hours completed.
• Confidence managing a classroom of students.
• Willingness to step in where needed, including supervision, tutoring, and test proctoring.
• Pass state and federal background checks.
• Include relevant experience working with students on the resume.
