About The Position
The Early Childhood Education Laboratory Preschool (ECELP) at LSU's College of Human Sciences & Education is seeking a Wages as Earned - Non Exempt Substitute. This position is responsible for the care and education of a group of children, implementing the curriculum, carrying out program activities as directed, and communicating with parents. The role involves engaging in responsive, nurturing interactions with children, providing supervision and care during daily activities, implementing the program curriculum, and conducting developmentally appropriate activities for children aged 6 weeks to 5 years old in a safe environment. Additionally, the position requires maintaining a clean and orderly physical environment, communicating with parents about their children's growth and development, maintaining confidentiality, and complying with center policies and procedures. Other duties may be assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma
- Must comply with Department of Education criminal background check and fingerprinting
- Must perform a pre-employment physical
- Must be able to sit/sit on the floor, stoop, kneel, crouch and stand for extended periods of time
- Capable of lifting, holding children and/or items that weigh 20 to 40 lbs or more and possibly to different parts of the building on occasion
- Must be capable of completing daily housekeeping tasks (sweeping, removing trash, washing materials and food preparation)
- Willingness to get messy during activity time
- Willingness to sing in front of children
- Must have valid U.S. work authorization at the time of hire and maintain that valid work authorization throughout employment
Nice To Haves
- CDA/ECE Ancillary Certificate OR experience working with children in a learning and development setting
Responsibilities
- Engage in responsive, nurturing interactions with children
- Provide supervision and care to children during daily activities and routines
- Implement the program curriculum as directed by the Lead Teacher or Associate Director
- Conduct developmentally appropriate activities for children ages 6 weeks to 5 years old in a safe environment
- Maintain a clean and orderly physical environment
- Communicate with parents regarding the growth and development of their children
- Maintain confidentiality of children, parents, and fellow staff members
- Know and comply with the policies and procedures of the center
- Perform other duties assigned
