About The Position

This position involves providing daily contracted services for the school year, assisting with various office and classroom duties. The role requires a high school diploma or GED, with a preference for 45 college credits. The Substitute Aide/Clerk will support parents, manage computer functions, assist students, serve as a receptionist, and aid teachers with classroom activities, materials, and student behavior. The position also includes administrative tasks such as taking attendance, following lesson plans, maintaining confidentiality, and adhering to school policies and procedures. The role requires adaptability, good judgment, and the ability to maintain composure under stress in an office environment with frequent interruptions.

  • 45 college credits from accredited college/university (preferred)
  • Knowledge of computers would be helpful

Responsibilities

  • Assist parents as needed when they walk into the office.
  • Be responsible for computer functions performed in the office.
  • Assist sick and injured students.
  • Serve as a receptionist.
  • Exercise initiative in developing creative activities to supplement and reinforce learning.
  • Assist the teacher in keeping materials stored in proper places when not in use.
  • Conduct group activities as needed.
  • Aide in the construction of teaching aides and materials.
  • Be familiar with and able to operate audio-visual equipment.
  • Assist the teacher in preparing work materials, e.g., laminating, typing.
  • Exercise firm but kind control of student’s behavior, abiding by the teacher’s policy.
  • Assist in duty as assigned by the school principal.
  • Assist the teacher with classroom control emphasizing courtesy and good manners.
  • Be subject to transfer or reassignment as necessary.
  • Be familiar with fire exits, fire drill procedures, severe storm and tornado warning procedures.
  • Review notes for the day, take attendance and follow the lesson plans of the teacher.
  • Maintain confidentiality as defined by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
  • Demonstrate the ability to adapt to circumstances.
  • Exhibit good judgment and use appropriate language or behavior while on assignment.
  • Report for duty 15 minutes early and remain on duty for the entire assignment, including planning time of the teacher.
  • Abide by state statutes, school board policies and regulations.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation.
  • Leave detailed notes for teacher/office on any issues experienced during the day.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Principal, or the Substitute Office.
