About The Position

This role involves providing daily contracted services as a substitute instructor during the school year. The primary goal is to maintain a positive and safe learning environment, implement lessons in the absence of the regular instructor, and ensure district policies are followed. Substitute instructors are responsible for student supervision, adhering to emergency procedures, taking attendance, following lesson plans, and maintaining student confidentiality according to FERPA. Adaptability, good judgment, and appropriate conduct are essential. The role requires punctuality, commitment to a minimum of 5 days per month, and accurate record-keeping. Substitute instructors must also protect students and school property, and leave detailed notes for the regular teacher.

Requirements

  • High School diploma (required)
  • Must be 20 years old

Nice To Haves

  • 45 college credits from accredited college/university (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a positive learning environment and respond to the individual needs of the students.
  • Implement effective lessons in the absence of the regular Instructor.
  • Ensure that district policies are observed during all activities.
  • Create a safe classroom environment that is conducive to learning.
  • Keep all children in the classroom under supervision at all times.
  • Be familiar with fire exits, fire drill procedures, severe storm and tornado warning procedures.
  • Review notes for the day, take attendance and follow the lesson plans of the teacher.
  • Maintain confidentiality as defined by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
  • Demonstrate the ability to adapt to circumstances.
  • Exhibit good judgment and use appropriate language or behavior while on assignment.
  • Report for duty 15 minutes early and remain on duty for the entire assignment, including planning time of the teacher.
  • Commit to work a minimum of 5 days per month.
  • Abide by state statutes, school board policies and regulations.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation.
  • Leave detailed notes for teacher on any issues experienced during the day.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Principal, or the Substitute Office.
