About The Position

Avenues Recovery Center is hiring a part-time Substance Abuse Counselor for its outpatient facility in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The counselor provides individualized, evidence-based addiction treatment and supports clients throughout their care and aftercare. The role includes therapeutic sessions, crisis response, clinical documentation, and coordination with the treatment team and families. Counselors are expected to model recovery principles, ethical conduct, honesty, accountability, dignity, and respect.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in psychology, counseling, or a related field.
• Valid state licensure or certification to practice in this role, such as LPC, LCSW, PLPC, CIT, RAC, or CSW.
• Excellent observational, collaborative, and interpersonal skills.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Compassionate, dignified character that models recovery principles.
• Ability to set strong boundaries and maintain absolute confidentiality.

Nice To Haves

• Master's degree.

Responsibilities

• Create individualized, evidence-based treatment plans for each client.
• Conduct individual, group, family, and couple therapy sessions.
• Manage clinical needs, services, and aftercare for an assigned client caseload.
• Prevent, intervene in, and de-escalate crises.
• Document client challenges, progress, relapse risk, and interventions.
• Coordinate care with the Clinical Director, treatment team, and family members.
• Model ethics, morality, and recovery principles—including honesty, accountability, dignity, and respect—in professional interactions.
