About The Position

This is a Student Technical Theater Assistant position within the College of Arts & Sciences, requiring Federal Work Study. The role involves assisting with theater maintenance and event preparation in the Black Box Theater under the supervision of the Theater Technical Director. Responsibilities include handling lighting equipment, building and installing scenic elements, painting scenery and props, operating a sewing machine for costume construction and repair, and general care for costumes. The position also entails cleaning and maintaining the theater space and equipment, organizing and storing equipment, and performing event setup and strike. A key aspect of the role is maintaining a safe workplace by adhering to proper workwear guidelines, including sturdy closed-toe shoes, durable pants, securely fastened hair, and using Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as directed.

Requirements

Ability to lift at least 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

Assist with theater maintenance, and preparation for events held in the Black Box Theater
Hang and focus lighting equipment
Build, move, and install scenic elements, and other performance equipment
Paint scenery and props
Use sewing machine to build or mend costumes
Care for costumes including washing, drying, ironing, steaming, and other care methods
Cleaning and maintenance of theater space and equipment
Equipment organization and storage
Event setup and strike
Maintain a safe workplace through proper workwear including sturdy closed-toe shoes, durable pants, hair securely fashioned, and PPE as directed by the Technical Director
