About The Position

Support the academic, behavioral, social-emotional, and attendance success of students by coordinating intervention services, strengthening school-home partnerships, connecting families with community resources, assisting with crisis response, and collaborating with campus staff to remove barriers to student learning. This position is not a certified counseling position and does not provide counseling services that require a Texas School Counselor Certificate.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
  • Experience working with children, families, education, social services, or a related field
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and staff

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in education, social work, psychology, human services, or related field
  • Experience in public education
  • Knowledge of MTSS/RTI systems
  • Knowledge of community resources available to families

Responsibilities

  • Build positive relationships with students.
  • Provide short-term, solution-focused student support through coaching, mentoring, and problem-solving.
  • Assist students in developing self-regulation, conflict-resolution, goal-setting, organization, and executive functioning skills.
  • Monitor students identified as at-risk academically, behaviorally, socially, or through attendance concerns.
  • Conduct regular student check-ins.
  • Support students during transitions throughout the school year.
  • Participate in campus intervention teams.
  • Build trusting partnerships with families.
  • Assist families in navigating school procedures.
  • Connect families with community resources.
  • Coordinate communication between school and home when additional support is needed.
  • Conduct home visits, when appropriate and approved by administration.
  • Encourage family participation in school activities.
  • Monitor attendance trends.
  • Collaborate with attendance committees.
  • Work with families to identify barriers to attendance.
  • Develop attendance improvement plans with administrators.
  • Celebrate attendance improvements.
  • Assist with implementation of Tier I, II, and III behavioral supports.
  • Participate in Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) meetings as requested.
  • Assist teachers in identifying interventions for struggling students.
  • Help coordinate behavior support plans.
  • Support restorative practices.
  • Assist with student re-entry meetings following disciplinary placements.
  • Coordinate campus-wide SEL initiatives.
  • Facilitate classroom lessons related to: Character development, Bullying prevention, Emotional regulation, Decision-making, Healthy relationships, Growth mindset, Digital citizenship.
  • Provide small-group skill-building activities under campus-approved programming (not therapy or psychotherapy).
  • Assist administrators during student crises.
  • Help coordinate campus response following student or staff tragedies.
  • Participate in threat assessment teams as assigned.
  • Help develop student safety plans with appropriate personnel.
  • Connect families with outside mental health providers when needed.
  • Develop partnerships with local agencies.
  • Coordinate services from community organizations.
  • Assist families in accessing: Food assistance, Clothing resources, Housing resources, Medical services, Mental health referrals, Utility assistance, Holiday assistance.
  • Collaborate with teachers to identify barriers affecting learning.
  • Participate in PLC discussions regarding student supports.
  • Serve on campus committees.
  • Provide professional learning related to: Trauma-informed practices, Student engagement, Relationship building, De-escalation strategies, Classroom supports, Community resources.
  • Maintain documentation of interventions.
  • Monitor intervention effectiveness.
  • Analyze campus attendance, discipline, and behavioral trends.
  • Prepare reports for campus leadership.
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with FERPA and district policies.
