About The Position

As a Nurse Extern, you’ll be a valued part of the nursing team, gaining hands-on experience while exploring the full scope of the Registered Nurse role. You’ll help deliver safe, compassionate care that improves patients’ lives while building skills and confidence for more advanced responsibilities as you progress through your nursing program. The position is at LewisGale Hospital Montgomery, a 140+ bed acute care hospital serving Southwest Virginia and the New River Valley. The hospital provides heart and vascular care, orthopedic and spine care, heartburn treatment, and maternity services. Requirements

Associate degree or bachelor’s degree.
Basic Cardiac Life Support certification must be obtained within 30 days of the employment start date.
No prior experience required.
No travel required.

Responsibilities

Provide essential patient care, including assistance with activities of daily living, vital-sign checks, mobility support, comfort, and hygiene.
Perform nursing tasks such as wound care, catheter care, specimen collection, and other basic procedures as experience and competency develop.
Document care accurately and communicate timely updates to the nursing team.
Help patients and families understand care plans and provide guidance about health and recovery.
Maintain clean, safe, and organized patient areas by following infection-prevention practices and managing equipment.
Participate in learning opportunities, share ideas to improve care, and work with a supervisor or preceptor on a personal career development plan.
