Student Nurse Tech 4900 Minimally Invasive PCU
About The Position
The Student Nurse Tech provides multi-skilled, direct patient care under the direction and supervision of a registered professional nurse. The role requires completion of a foundational nursing skills course or equivalent, such as fundamentals, foundations, or adult/pediatric health. The position is on the 28-bed Minimally Invasive Progressive Care Unit, which cares for post-operative and intermediate-care patients, including patients recovering from bariatric surgery, hernia repairs, mastectomies, and other minimally invasive procedures. The unit is a designated Bariatric Center of Excellence and cares for a broad range of surgical patients. Barnes-Jewish Hospital is part of Washington University Medical Center and is recognized for excellence in nursing care. The position requires enrollment in an accredited RN program; enrollment in an accredited BSN program is preferred.
Requirements
- Be enrolled in an accredited RN program.
- Complete a foundational nursing skills course or equivalent, such as fundamentals, foundations, or adult/pediatric health.
- No prior experience required.
- No supervisor experience required.

Responsibilities
- Assist the nurse with patient and family education.
- Document patient care activities using correct medical terminology.
- Act as a 1:1 patient safety sitter as necessary.
- Ensure supplies and equipment are available to meet each patient's needs.
- Implement direct patient care under the supervision of the nursing team.
- Collect clinical data and information on patients and report abnormal findings to the nurse.
- Instruct patients in preparations for tests and procedures.
