About The Position

The Student Nurse Tech reports to the Nurse Manager and, under the direct supervision of a Licensed Nurse, performs multi-skilled activities to support a decentralized, patient-centered approach to care and achieve desired outcomes. The position is scheduled for 36 hours per week and may require rotating shifts and overtime as needed. The role works in a latex-safe environment and requires qualification for respirator use, initially and as required.

Requirements

High school diploma.
Successfully pass a Fundamentals of Nursing course, as determined by the institution in which the candidate is enrolled.
Currently participate in a nursing program at an accredited institution.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification: American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers or an AHA-recognized equivalent, or American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.
Ability to work rotating shifts and overtime as required.
Ability to work in a latex-safe environment and to be physically qualified for respirator use, initially and as required.
Ability to deal effectively with stressful situations.
Ability to perform the listed physical activities and meet the stated sensory and vision requirements, including lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds unassisted.

Responsibilities

Keep patient rooms tidy and sanitized.
Assist patients with everyday needs, including personal hygiene, using the restroom, and grooming.
Monitor vital signs, EKG signals, and patient condition.
Assist nursing staff in administering basic treatments.
Ensure rooms have adequate patient-care supplies and clean linen.
Assist patients with particular issues or needs and provide appropriate emotional support.
Place patients on cardiac monitors.
Empty drains, ostomies, and Foley bags.
Perform blood sugar checks.
Perform other duties assigned by the department leader.
