About The Position

Sanford Health’s Student Nurse Internship Program is for non-traditional University of Mary students who will be engaged in full-time study during the summer semester. Interns work 18–24 hours per month. The program begins with one week of orientation, after which interns join a specific department and are paired with a preceptor. Available areas include Med Surg Flex (1C), Neurology, Oncology, Cardiology, Orthopedics, Med Surg, and the Float Pool. The internship is designed to build confidence and competence in clinical skills and support a smooth transition into a licensed role after graduation. Interns are mentored by a licensed professional in their specialty and gain experience in an area suited to their career goals, talents, and interests. They work alongside nurses to learn patient care, develop skills, and practice time management while following a real work schedule. Interns care for patients across preventative care, health maintenance, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up as patients move between care settings. They perform direct and indirect patient-care tasks, support department activities, use appropriate population-specific protocols and policies addressing patients’ physical and psychological needs across all ages, and work within applicable state regulations and standards of practice. Interns are expected to embody Sanford Health’s vision and values.
