The Sanford Student Nurse Internship Program is for non-traditional University of Mary students enrolled in full-time study during the summer semester. Interns work 18–24 hours per month. The program begins with one week of orientation, followed by placement in a specific department and a preceptor-supported internship experience. Opportunities are available in Med Surg Flex (1C), Neurology, Oncology, Cardiology, Orthopedics, Med Surg, and the Float Pool. The internship is a learning experience intended to build confidence and competence in clinical skills and support a smooth transition to a licensed role after graduation. Interns are mentored by a licensed professional in their specialty and gain experience in an area of nursing practice suited to their career goals, talents, and interests. They work alongside a nurse to learn patient care, develop skills, and practice time management while following a real schedule.
