About The Position

Make a meaningful impact in your community as a Student Navigator with Aurora Mental Health & Recovery's Adult Education Program. This is paid and an exceptional opportunity for multilingual and culturally diverse students who are passionate about social services, education, and community advocacy. As a Student Navigator, you will serve as a trusted resource for immigrants, refugees, non-native English speakers, and adult learners by supporting outreach, registration, orientation, and ongoing learner engagement. Through hands-on experience collaborating with educators, staff, and community partners, you'll develop valuable skills in cultural competence, trauma-informed care, interpretation, learner support, critical thinking, and professional communication. Since 2003, our Adult Education Program has empowered thousands of adult learners to build English proficiency, earn their GED, pursue citizenship, access employment opportunities, and achieve greater self-sufficiency. Varies at Aurora Public Schools (APS) sites for several hours a days 2-3 times a week, approximately 10 hours per week. Term-Limited Position: This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, term-limited position expected to end on or around June 30, 2027, with the possibility of extension if grant funding continues. This position is funded through the Aurora Public Schools and is contingent upon continued funding. The position may be eliminated if funding is reduced or discontinued by the grantor.

Requirements

High school diploma/GED.
Required Vaccination and TB Test. At AMHR, the health and safety of our clients and staff are our top priorities. As part of this commitment, all employees are required to receive an annual influenza (flu) shot and present a negative TB test result before their first day of work. Proof of both the flu shot and a negative TB test must be provided on your first day of employment. Medical and religious exemptions can be requested if necessary.

Responsibilities

Serve as program ambassadors, providing community-based outreach and building trust with diverse communities.
Facilitate registration processes using translators and translating devices, assisting students with intake paperwork and explaining forms.
Support on-site orientation tasks, including guiding students through digital learning platforms, creating accounts, and demonstrating use of Zoom.
Coordinate logistics during registration events, welcoming students, making appointments, and ensuring students are prepared with supplies.
Assist with interpretation and translation in multiple languages, helping to ensure accessibility for all learners.
Conduct needs assessments using data tools and surveys, helping gather feedback and identify learner needs.
Support students with socioemotional and trauma-informed care, ensuring a welcoming and culturally sensitive environment.
Help with community events such as tax preparation, “Know Your Right’s” workshops, GED graduations, cultural events, citizenship workshops, and more.
Engage in ongoing training in cultural competence, trauma-informed practices, and community outreach.
Perform light organizational tasks, including setting up and takedown of events, copying, organizing supplies, and decorating rooms.
