About The Position

CareVet of West Central Minnesota offers veterinary students a paid externship to gain real-world clinical experience in a supportive hospital environment. Externs learn alongside experienced veterinarians and technicians and receive exposure to a variety of small- and large-animal services. Certain graded externships may not be eligible for payment based on the requirements of the student’s veterinary school curriculum. The practice is led by Dr. Kathleen Jost, who has practiced for over 20 years, and has a six-doctor team and a tenured, cohesive support team. Small-animal services include wellness care, surgery, end-of-life care, laser therapy, and internal medicine diagnostics. The four-exam-room practice is equipped to treat cattle, equine, and small ruminants, with hospital and ambulatory services including reproductive care, dentistry, laboratory services, and elective and emergency surgeries. The hospital also provides avian care, including nail and wing trims and wellness exams. The position is based in Benson, Minnesota, a small community with outdoor activities and parks, an affordable cost of living, and access by car to larger cities.
