About The Position

San Diego State University is seeking a customer-focused and detail-oriented Student Accounts Specialist to provide student account assistance, process financial transactions, and support interdepartmental coordination. This role ensures accurate account management, compliance with federal and institutional policies, and responsive service for students, parents, and campus stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to three years of progressively responsible financial record-keeping experience.
  • Customer service experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of financial record-keeping, mathematical and general office methods, procedures, and practices.
  • Ability to apply accounting procedures and practices to the analysis of basic accounting problems.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret accounting data.
  • Ability to apply problem solving techniques in finding solutions to basic accounting problems.
  • Ability to provide accurate information and explain University policies and procedures to Students, Staff and Parents.
  • Ability to work closely and cooperatively with various campus departments.
  • Experience using enterprise computer systems.
  • Applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

  • Experience in a university student account or cashiering environment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist students, parents, and staff with inquiries related to payments, refunds, fee holds, and account access; explain policies and resolve billing issues.
  • Handle student account transactions, including credit adjustments, refunds, and payment postings; reconcile data for daily deposits, checks, and online payments.
  • Run reports, process Title IV and NSLDS data, manage third-party payments, and assist with financial aid and reconciliation tasks.
  • Support events and programs involving the Bursar’s Office (e.g., orientation, study abroad); coordinate with campus departments and participate in policy committees.
