Structural Response M&S Engineer

CFD Research Corporation•Huntsville, AL
•Onsite

About The Position

CFD Research is hiring a structural response modeling and simulation engineer to support multiple projects. The engineer will conduct thermo-structural response analyses of composite materials and structures under conditions and environments relevant to high-speed flight systems, using tools such as Abaqus. Work includes linear and highly nonlinear problems involving transient loads, contact interactions, and progressive damage models. The engineer will collaborate with engineers, scientists, and software developers to research, develop, and demonstrate new approaches for structural response modeling of carbon-based composite materials and structures.

Requirements

  • At least two years of relevant industry and/or research experience with physics-based modeling and simulation.
  • Experience with Abaqus.
  • Experience with nonlinear structural analysis.
  • Experience with failure modeling of composite materials, such as common techniques for fracture propagation.
  • Experience with common Aerospace industry materials and practices for designing flight vehicles.
  • Demonstrated capability using Python, C/C++, or Fortran for analysis setup and execution, such as batch pre- and post-processing.
  • Experience presenting to customers.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and eligible to work for any employer.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
  • Must be available to work in Huntsville, Alabama.
  • Typical degrees hired include Aerospace Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science/Engineering, or Physics; graduate and undergraduate degrees are noted.

Nice To Haves

  • Thorough knowledge of Abaqus input file (keyword) format.
  • Experience in material science and/or chemistry.
  • Experience with composite materials micromechanics or multiscale modeling approaches.
  • Experience with structural dynamics and thermal analysis, transient loading, and nonlinear implicit and explicit analysis.
  • Experience modeling material constitutive response using user subroutines.
  • Experience with CFD codes and multiphysics analysis.
  • Experience with additional DoD/Industry standard FEM tools.
  • An active security clearance is preferable.

Responsibilities
