About The Position

Modern Technology Solutions, Inc. (MTSI) is seeking a Modeling and Simulation (M&S) Engineer to support a small, highly empowered team in Dayton, Ohio. The role uses modeling and simulation experience to develop systems, subsystem, and component models for aerospace applications. The engineer develops models, algorithms, and simulation software, and performs trade-space analysis to assess and verify system characteristics and capabilities. The work also includes documenting software and hardware characteristics and changes to simulation environments; designing test architectures and plans; planning and executing experiments; collecting and analyzing data; and generating reports. The engineer integrates models into complex simulation architectures, including engagement-level and theater-level simulations and hardware-in-the-loop architectures.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of experience using modeling and simulation software development frameworks.
  • Experience with MATLAB/Simulink.
  • Basic understanding of aerospace system functions and dynamics, and how to model them, including detailed subsystem models and flight dynamics models.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve difficult hardware and software integration challenges.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, often with minimal guidance and within rigid timelines.
  • Ability to interact with data suppliers, work with coworkers, and interface with customers at disparate locations.
  • Strong communication skills, including communicating complex technical issues and producing comprehensive written, oral, and/or digital products, with document organization and technical writing.
  • Good analytical skills and ability to multitask across projects.
  • Familiarity with contractor and government roles in applying intelligence analysis to aerospace system development and acquisition.
  • Must be located in or willing to relocate to the Dayton, Ohio area.
  • B.S. degree in an engineering or physics discipline.
  • Current Secret clearance.
  • U.S. citizenship.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional training in modeling and simulation related to space, missile, or aircraft system performance and dynamics.
  • At least one additional programming or software development language, such as C, C++, or Python.
  • Familiarity with TMAP, AFSIM, ITASE, NGTS, or JSE.
  • Familiarity with the Department of Defense and the United States Intelligence Community.
  • Experience developing mathematical models of aerospace vehicle dynamics, guidance, navigation, and control components and algorithms.
  • Understanding of system component integration and ability to model entire systems or individual components, such as sensors, GNC, propulsion, or aerodynamics, at varying levels of detail.
  • Master’s degree in an engineering or physics discipline.
  • TS clearance with SCI eligibility.

Responsibilities

  • Develop models, algorithms, and associated simulation software for aerospace systems, subsystems, and components.
  • Perform trade-space analysis to assess and verify system characteristics and capabilities.
  • Document software and hardware characteristics and changes to existing and new simulation environments.
  • Design test architectures and plans; plan and execute experiments; collect and analyze data; and generate reports.
  • Integrate models into complex simulation architectures, including engagement-level simulations, theater-level simulations, and hardware-in-the-loop architectures.
  • Address hardware and software integration challenges.
  • Interact with data suppliers, coworkers, and customers at disparate locations.
