Working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, you will inspect, adjust, and repair carbon steel and stainless-steel car body assemblies to ensure they meet exact engineering specifications and the highest quality standards. Your craftsmanship, attention to detail, and commitment to safety will directly impact the performance, reliability, and appearance of the trains that move millions of passengers every day.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Proficiency in MIG welding, Oxy/Acetylene torches, and/or induction heating equipment.
  • Strong mechanical background.
  • Basic English skills, with the ability to read and understand written instructions and communicate effectively.

Nice To Haves

  • 2 years of MIG and/or TIG welding experience, or completion of an accredited welding education program.
  • AWS certification for welding carbon steel using GMAW 3G vertical up and 4F overhead.

Responsibilities

  • Adjust welded car body assemblies using heat or cold straightening techniques to ensure all dimensions and tolerances meet specification requirements.
  • Read and interpret manufacturing drawings, then verify dimensions and tolerances using appropriate measuring tools and equipment, including straight edges, tape measures, and templates.
  • Repair fabrication errors in accordance with established repair procedures while safely using hand tools, power tools, and welding equipment.
  • Complete work orders, quality documentation, and labor reporting accurately while maintaining company standards for quality and workmanship.
  • Meet production schedules, quality requirements, and budgeted labor hours with limited supervision while following all safety requirements, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and contributing to a safe and healthy work environment.
