About The Position

The Storyteller in Residence will weave stories and storytelling throughout the school by collaborating with teachers to suggest and provide books that complement and strengthen Jewish and General Studies curriculum. This role involves telling stories in classrooms to deepen student learning and engagement with curriculum, sharing stories to bring joy throughout the school, and working with students to develop their own storytelling skills. Additionally, the position will integrate America’s 250th anniversary by encouraging students to tell their family stories. The role also includes creating a physical space for the written word by investigating current trends and establishing best practices, visiting local schools to speak with library professionals, developing the physical space with furniture and equipment for book displays and group/individual spaces, purchasing books, and collaborating with the CJDS Technology Specialist to design media integration. Furthermore, the Storyteller in Residence will engage current and prospective families by developing workshops and experiences that teach parents how to share stories with their children and demonstrate how their children become more resilient. This includes developing and teaching a new class for 2-3 year olds and their adults based on stories and storytelling, aimed at bringing new families into the school and strengthening enrollment.

Requirements

  • Experience in developing physical spaces, including selecting furniture and equipment.
  • Ability to purchase books.
