About The Position

The Store Manager is responsible for managing store employees and effectively planning and implementing store processes, including ordering, receiving, stocking, presentation, selling, staffing, and support. The role oversees recruiting, training, performance management, store operations, inventory, merchandising, customer service, cash controls, safety, and compliance with company procedures. The manager also personally opens and closes the store on a regular basis and performs bank deposits.

Requirements

Ability to read and interpret diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, including percentages.
Knowledge of cash handling, cashier accountability, and deposit control.
Ability to perform IBM cash register functions to generate reports.
Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.

Knowledge of recruiting, interviewing, hiring, counseling, termination practices, legal compliance, and internal processes.
Knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies and practices, including deposits, store keys, and the SAFE program.

Ability to recruit, hire, and train qualified applicants and ensure compliance with federal labor laws and company policies.
Frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, and kneeling.
Ability to frequently handle merchandise and equipment such as handheld scanners, pricing guns, box cutters, merchandise containers, two-wheel dollies, and U-boats.
Ability to frequently lift up to 40 pounds and occasionally lift up to 55 pounds.
Ability to occasionally climb using a ladder.
Regularly drive or provide own transportation for bank deposits and occasional work-related travel.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or equivalent strongly preferred.
One year of management experience in a retail environment preferred.
Bilingual Spanish speakers may be preferred at certain store locations.

Responsibilities

Recruit, select, retain, train, and develop qualified employees in accordance with labor laws and company policies.
Conduct performance evaluations, address performance or conduct gaps through appropriate solutions or counseling, and make recommendations regarding pay rates and advancement.
Communicate performance, conduct, and safety expectations, and coordinate meetings and events related to safety, security, and policies.
Ensure appropriate staffing and effective daily opening and closing; personally open the store at least twice per week and close it at least twice per week.
Review operating statements to identify business trends, sales and profitability concerns, expense-control opportunities, potential shrink, and errors.
Manage ordering, in-stock targets, seasonal direction, inventory issues, replenishment, and cycle counts.
Oversee merchandise staging, stocking, storage, presentation, pricing, and signage according to company practices.
Maintain accurate inventory by controlling damages, markdowns, scanning, paperwork, and facility controls.
Protect store financial integrity through cashier accountability, key control, security practices, and cash-control procedures.
Provide leadership in delivering superior customer service.
Maintain a clean, organized, safe, and secure store and ensure the store has the tools needed for required tasks.
Ensure employee compliance with company policies and procedures, including those in the Standard Operating Procedures manual, Employee Handbook, and company communications.
Complete paperwork and documentation according to guidelines and deadlines.
Make bank deposits and, when needed, travel to management meetings and other Dollar General stores.
