About The Position

The Store Manager Candidate supports the Store Manager in implementing store processes, including employee supervision, staffing, inventory management, stocking and receiving, paperwork, and other store needs. The role is intended to support the interactive development of an external candidate for a Store Manager position and is held for a limited period. The candidate may operate the store in the Store Manager’s absence and acts as a liaison between the Store Support Center and store employees. The role includes supporting customer service, employee development, recruiting and training, store compliance, and the financial and operational integrity of the store. The position involves a fast-paced environment with a moderate noise level, occasional exposure to outside weather, and some travel with limited overnight stays.

Requirements

Must be 21 years or older.
Ability to read and interpret diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, including percentages.
Knowledge of cash handling, cashier accountability, and deposit controls.
Ability to learn and perform IBM cash register functions, including generating reports.
Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
Knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies and practices, including deposits, store keys, SAFE, and STARS programs.
Knowledge of recruiting, interviewing, hiring, counseling, and termination practices, including legal compliance and internal processes.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Effective interpersonal and organizational skills, with attention to detail.
Ability to solve problems and handle situations where limited standardization exists.
High school diploma or equivalent strongly preferred.
One year of retail experience preferred for external candidates.
Ability to frequently walk and stand, bend, stoop, and kneel.
Ability to frequently lift up to 40 pounds and occasionally lift up to 55 pounds.
Ability to occasionally climb using a ladder.
Ability to occasionally drive or provide personal transportation for work-related duties.

One year of experience in a retail environment.

Responsibilities

Assist with recruiting and staffing activities, including recruiting, hiring, and training qualified applicants.
Assist with merchandising, staging, stocking, storing, signing, and pricing merchandise according to established practices and Store Manager direction.
Assist with inventory management, including damages, markdowns, register scanning, paperwork, facility controls, and conducting inventories.
Follow ordering practices to meet or exceed in-stock targets.
Provide customer service leadership and respond to customer needs.
Follow company procedures and policies and act as a role model for employees.
Participate in store opening and closing activities.
Ensure company funds are deposited safely in the designated bank.
Support store financial integrity through cashier accountability, key control, security practices, and cash control procedures.
Help maintain clean, well-stocked stores and a safe environment for customers and employees.
Operate the store in the Store Manager’s absence.
Review operating statements to identify business trends, expense-control opportunities, potential shrink, and errors.
Complete paperwork and documentation according to guidelines and deadlines.
Support employee development, cooperation, collaboration, and communication.
Ensure store compliance with federal labor laws and company policies and procedures.
Travel to make bank deposits, attend management meetings, and visit other Dollar General stores as needed.
