About The Position

The Store Manager Candidate supports the Store Manager in implementing store processes, including employee supervision, staffing, inventory management, stocking and receiving, paperwork, and other store needs. The role provides interactive development for an external candidate preparing for a Store Manager position and is intended to be held for a limited period. The candidate assists with recruiting and staffing, merchandising, inventory management, ordering, customer service, store security and cash controls, store cleanliness and safety, and opening and closing activities. The candidate operates the store in the Store Manager’s absence and reviews operating statements to identify business trends, expense-control opportunities, potential shrink, and errors. The role also requires completing paperwork and documentation according to guidelines and deadlines. Working conditions include frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, and handling merchandise and equipment. The position involves frequent lifting of up to 40 pounds and occasional lifting of up to 55 pounds, occasional climbing on a step ladder up to six feet, and regular driving of a personal vehicle for meetings, visits to other stores, and deposits. The work environment is fast-paced with moderate noise, and may include exposure to outdoor weather, cleaning solutions, slippery floors, and extreme cold in freezers.

Requirements

Ability to read and interpret documents such as diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to perform mathematical calculations including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages.
Knowledge of cash-handling procedures, including cashier accountability and deposit controls.
Ability to learn and perform cash register functions, including functions used to generate reports.
Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
Knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies and practices.
Knowledge of recruiting, interviewing, hiring, counseling, and termination practices, including legal compliance and internal processes.
Proficient interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
Proficient organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to solve problems and handle situations with limited standardization.
Two or more years of experience in a leadership or managerial position.
Valid driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or equivalent is strongly preferred.
Two or more years of experience in a retail grocery store is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

Assist with recruiting and staffing activities.
Assist with store merchandising, including staging, stocking, storage, merchandise presentation, and proper use of fixtures, signing, and pricing.
Assist with inventory management, including damages, markdowns, register scanning, paperwork, facility controls, and conducting inventories.
Follow prescribed ordering practices to meet or exceed in-stock targets.
Provide superior customer service leadership.
Model compliance with Company procedures and policies in the employee handbook, SOP manual, and Company communications.
Participate in store opening and closing activities.
Ensure Company funds are safely deposited at the designated bank.
Assist in maintaining the store’s financial integrity through cashier accountability, key control, security practices, and cash control procedures.
Assist in maintaining clean, well-stocked stores and a safe environment for customers and employees.
Operate the store in the Store Manager’s absence.
Review operating statements to identify business trends, expense-control opportunities, potential shrink, and errors.
Complete paperwork and documentation according to guidelines and deadlines.
