About The Position

Under general supervision, the Store Food Manager manages the Food Department and, when designated as manager on duty, the total store. The role supports efficient inventory management, appealing and profitable merchandise presentation, quality customer service, a safe work environment, protection of company assets, and compliance with food-handling rules and regulations. The manager also provides support to other managers as requested.

When serving as manager on duty, the role may manage the store in the Store Manager’s and Assistant Manager’s absence, oversee cash accountability and security procedures, and address customer needs. For the Grocery Food Department, the manager helps train associates, monitor performance, maintain sanitation and stocking standards, manage markdowns and inventory, and coordinate merchandise receipt and presentation. The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and two to three years of retail clerk experience. Previous lead experience and/or grocery store experience is preferred. Required local and state food-handling certifications must be obtained when applicable. Relocation assistance is not available.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Two to three years of retail clerk experience.
• Ability to perform mathematical calculations, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages.
• Knowledge of cash-handling procedures, including cashier accountability and deposit control.
• Ability to perform cash register functions.
• Knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies and practices.
• Effective interpersonal and oral and written communication skills.
• Understanding of safety policies and practices.
• Ability to read and follow planograms and merchandise-presentation guidance.
• Ability and willingness to comply with company policies and procedures as outlined in the Standard Operating Procedures manual, Employee Handbook, and company communications.
• Ability and willingness to obtain required food-handling certifications.
• Attainment of required local and state food-handling certifications, if applicable.

Responsibilities

• Manage the Food Department and, when designated, the total store as manager on duty.
• Manage the store in the Store Manager’s and Assistant Manager’s absence.
• Authorize and sign for refunds and overrides, count registers, and ensure money is deposited in the bank.
• Support financial integrity through cash accountability, key control, and compliance with company security and cash-control procedures.
• Assist with training employees and assigned associates in food stocking and rotation, merchandise presentation, safe food handling, and hourly recovery standards.
• Assist with scheduling coverage, assess work completion, and follow up with associates about performance.
• Record Grocery Food markdowns, analyze their causes, and take corrective action to prevent recurrence.
• Assist with sanitation standards and associate training in the Grocery Food area using the Cleaning Schedule.
• Help execute the store’s 7 Day Workflow Plan, stocking standards, and Find-Fill-Fix procedures.
• Help ensure the HHT is used to investigate and prevent out-of-stocks and overstocks.
• Assist with organizing the receiving area and presenting merchandise according to established practices and plans.
• Use merchandise fixtures properly, including presentation, pricing, and signage.
• Help execute planograms, price changes, Was/Now, TRP, advertising signs, and Super Tuesday pricing and signage.
• Assist with Tote Inventory Management processes and follow inventory-control procedures to maintain accurate inventory levels.
• Minimize damages and markdowns and ensure accurate scanning and paperwork.
• Address customer needs and requests efficiently and maintain daily contact with customers to understand merchandise expectations and preferences.
• Lead the receipt and handling of new merchandise; prepare and organize sales shelves and staging areas for deliveries.
• Direct and assist associates with unloading trucks and direct new merchandise according to plan.
• Use storeroom space efficiently for reserve inventory and ensure proper rotation of perishable food items.
• Follow prescribed cash-handling procedures.
• Assist with safety meetings and help maintain a clean, organized, and safe store.
