About The Position

The Co-Store Director is a strategic partner to the Store Director and a key leader in the overall performance of the store. The role guides the full store team, supports daily operations, and helps ensure a consistent, high-quality experience for guests and team members. The Co-Store Director is expected to model The Fresh Market’s values and represent the brand with hospitality and professionalism in the store and local community.

The position oversees the Produce & Floral, Meat & Seafood, Bakery, Deli & CMS, and Center Store departments; supports team member recruitment and development; and manages financial and operational priorities, including sales, gross margin, labor planning, inventory control, and shrink reduction. It also requires maintaining food safety and regulatory compliance, responding to guest concerns, and building relationships with local organizations, vendors, and partners. The schedule is flexible and includes weekends, days, evenings, and holidays.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of progressive management experience in supermarkets, retail, restaurants, hospitality, or general business.
• Demonstrated success overseeing multiple departments or store-wide operations.
• Strong financial acumen and ability to achieve sales, margin, labor, and operational goals.
• Excellent communication, coaching, and conflict-resolution skills.
• Basic proficiency with POS systems, scheduling tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Food Safety Certification or ability to obtain it after hire.
• Must be 21 years of age or older.
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, days, evenings, and holidays.
• Ability to perform repetitive hand and arm movements; bend and reach; lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds independently; and stand or walk for long periods.
• Ability to work with exposure to extreme temperatures and use required protective equipment.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor’s degree in business, retail management, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Experience leading in a grocery or high-volume specialty retail environment.
• Proven success developing strong teams and delivering exceptional guest experiences.

Responsibilities

• Model and promote the values of passion, excellence, hospitality, and teamwork in every interaction.
• Be a visible, accessible leader on the sales floor, supporting team members and engaging with guests.
• Recruit, hire, and develop team members and build a pipeline of future leaders.
• Oversee the Produce & Floral, Meat & Seafood, Bakery, Deli & CMS, and Center Store departments to ensure merchandising, signage, and assortment reflect local guest needs and brand standards.
• Manage sales, gross margin, labor planning, inventory control, and shrink reduction.
• Partner with department managers on ordering, scheduling, and workload planning.
• Maintain compliance with food safety, sanitation, risk management, and regulatory requirements.
• Represent The Fresh Market as a brand ambassador in the store and local community.
• Build relationships with guests, respond to questions, resolve concerns, and model guest recovery.
• Engage with local organizations, vendors, and partners to strengthen the store’s community presence.
