About The Position

The Co-Store Director is a strategic partner to the Store Director and a key leader in the overall performance of the store. The role guides the full store team, supports daily operations, and helps ensure a consistent, high-quality experience for guests and team members. The Co-Store Director models The Fresh Market’s values of passion, excellence, hospitality, and teamwork, and represents the brand with professionalism in the store and local community.

The role oversees sales departments and store-wide financial and operational areas, while partnering with department managers to support effective ordering, scheduling, and workload planning. It also includes recruiting, hiring, and developing team members; maintaining compliance with food safety and regulatory requirements; resolving guest concerns; and building relationships with local organizations, vendors, and partners.

The position requires a flexible schedule that may include weekends, days, evenings, and holidays. Physical and work conditions include repetitive hand and arm movements, bending, reaching, lifting, pushing, or pulling up to 50 pounds independently, exposure to extreme temperatures, and standing or walking for extended periods. Approved headwear, hair and beard coverings, and personal protective equipment are required.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of progressive management experience in supermarkets, retail, restaurants, hospitality, or general business.
• Demonstrated success overseeing multiple departments or store-wide operations.
• Strong financial acumen and ability to achieve sales, margin, labor, and operational goals.
• Excellent communication, coaching, and conflict-resolution skills.
• Basic proficiency with POS systems, scheduling tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Food Safety Certification or ability to obtain certification after hire.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, days, evenings, and holidays.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor’s degree in business, retail management, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Experience leading in a grocery or high-volume specialty retail environment.
• Proven success developing strong teams and delivering exceptional guest experiences.
• Bilingual skills.

Responsibilities

• Model and promote the values of passion, excellence, hospitality, and teamwork.
• Serve as a visible, accessible leader on the sales floor, supporting team members and engaging with guests.
• Recruit, hire, and develop team members while building a pipeline of future leaders.
• Oversee Produce & Floral, Meat & Seafood, Bakery, Deli & CMS, and Center Store departments to ensure merchandising, signage, and assortment reflect local guest needs and brand standards.
• Manage sales, gross margin, labor planning, inventory control, and shrink reduction.
• Partner with department managers on ordering, scheduling, and workload planning.
• Maintain compliance with food safety, sanitation, risk management, and regulatory requirements.
• Represent The Fresh Market as a brand ambassador in the store and local community.
• Build guest relationships, respond to questions, resolve concerns, and model guest recovery.
• Engage with local organizations, vendors, and partners to strengthen the store’s community presence.
