The Staffing Coordinator works under the direct supervision of the Vice President of Patient Care Services or the Nursing Shift Supervisor. The role determines and adjusts daily staffing needs for nursing units in collaboration with Nursing Unit Directors and Clinical Managers to support adequate, safe staffing. The coordinator also assigns available beds to patients awaiting admission or transfer, maintains staffing and attendance records, and generates statistical reports from the Patient Care Services database as directed by administration or management. The position serves patients of all ages, from newborns through geriatric patients, and may also affect facility staff, physicians, visitors, vendors, and the general public. The coordinator must work effectively under pressure, manage competing deadlines, and demonstrate cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors. The role requires scheduled and unscheduled availability for holidays, call-backs, weeknights, weekends, and on-call duties, and participation in emergencies and community disasters as directed. As a designated disaster service worker, the employee is required to assist when needed under the California Emergency Services Act. The employee also has a responsibility to report perceived misconduct or potential violations of laws, regulations, policies, procedures, or organizational standards. A high school diploma or equivalent and at least three years of experience in a similar work setting are required; business education is preferred. Good clerical skills and computer data-entry experience are required. The employee must be able to communicate and work effectively with others, interpret written documents, prepare routine reports and correspondence, perform basic calculations, and apply common-sense judgment to instructions and standardized problems.
