About The Position

As a Staff Software Engineer at Walmart, you will lead the design and delivery of scalable platform capabilities, driving the full software development lifecycle with a focus on cloud-native architecture and AI/ML integration. You will provide technical leadership, mentor engineering teams, and collaborate across functions to translate complex business needs into actionable solutions. Your role will emphasize engineering excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement while ensuring alignment with strategic priorities. About the team: The Transportation team advances Walmart’s Supply Chain by developing scalable, resilient applications that improve delivery efficiency to warehouses, stores, and customers. Utilizing real-time telematics, computer vision, and IoT across Walmart’s and third-party fleets, the team enhances fleet management and reduces costs. Employing a robust technology stack including React Native, Java microservices with Spring Boot, Postgres Timescale DB, Kafka, Cosmos, ElasticSearch, Azure, Splunk, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines, the team ensures high performance and reliability. Continuous innovation drives solutions that meet evolving business needs and support operational excellence.

Requirements

  • Proven expertise in cloud-native architecture, including microservices, containers, and automation to ensure scalable and resilient systems.
  • Strong proficiency in software design patterns, API design, and software prototyping to develop maintainable and modular solutions.
  • Experience leading full software development lifecycle activities, including coding, testing, CI/CD deployment, and observability.
  • Ability to integrate AI/ML components and build intelligent automation features using Java
  • Demonstrated skills in conducting system design reviews and applying data-driven decision-making to optimize engineering outcomes.
  • Effective collaboration and communication skills to engage stakeholders and mentor engineering teams.
  • Commitment to technical ownership, continuous improvement, and adapting to evolving technologies and business needs.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 4 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
  • 6 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area and 2 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
  • Background in creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver platform capabilities including infrastructure, tooling, and ML frameworks aligned with roadmap milestones and domain priorities.
  • Drive full software development lifecycle activities such as coding, testing, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance.
  • Apply cloud-native architecture principles to ensure scalable, resilient, and agile systems.
  • Lead system design reviews to validate feasibility and ensure alignment with architectural best practices.
  • Build AI-driven applications integrating ML components and intelligent automation features.
  • Mentor engineers, influence technical decisions, and promote engineering excellence through continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate across teams to define technical requirements and track success metrics using data-driven practices.
